“Archy Marshall took the reins of planetary escape into orbit, switching up his style in all forms – Other than winning a Mercury Prize in 2017, this was Marshall’s true retrograde. An image of ‘space oddity’ possessed his King Krule persona in 2016 - a space-aged novel look, reconnoitring his childhood fascinations with outer space within ‘The Ooz’. He was garbed in shirts exuding warped ocular illusions and bright red, bug-eye sunglasses. The odd, existential, and cosmic image of this alias is reminiscent of David Bowie’s iconic 1969 ‘Space Oddity’ release.”
Producing a fanzine on the blue boy and melody maestro—King Krule—I explored the evolution of his style and sound from his early beginnings to the present day. This includes my own interpretation of his music and lyrics - expressed through the creation of aliases inspired by his many personas and monikers.
